For my first post ever i thought i could talk about last years NFL rookie QB class that exploded onto the scene.
My rankings of Rookie QBs this year. Then why.
1. Robert Griffin III
2. Russell Wilson
3. Andrew Luck
4. Ryan Tannehill
5. Brandon Weeden
Why?
1. Robert Griffin III was without any doubt the best rookie QB last year. Some may say I'm a little biased with that but ill place my argument of why. He came into a team that had absolutely no fire in it what so ever and even after having been at 3-6 at one point and then winning 7 games in a row and clinching the NFC EAST againts the teams rivals, cowboys, in week 17 shows clutch leadership play. Not to mention that he did it all with the 28th ranked Defense in the league. Now for some stats. obviously the most rushing yards by any other rookie QB making him a very good duel threat, with 7 on the ground TD. Next he had 20 passing Touchdowns with one of the most rattled WR line ups possible. He lost Garçon for almost the whole year and Fred Davis for everything but the first few games. He lost his best weapons and still had 20 TD not as much as some other rookies but here's the crazy part only FIVE INTERCEPTIONS!!!!!! That's it! Rookie year! Pure football awareness! Not to mention highest quarterback rating ever by a rookie with 102.4 outstanding!
2. I had a hard time deciding weather or not to put luck or Wilson here and kept switching them back and forth. Although I think Luck is the better QB for the future, I concluded Wilson had the better rookie season, because of one major issue TURNOVERS. Wilson only had 10 interceptions and 3 fumbles. Not terrible considering rookie, "undersized", and a duel threat QB. The reason he wasn't higher then RG3 was because he had the better team coming into the season. The Seahawks defense was #2 in the league and dominated games and all he had to do was not be stupid and he did that very well with the help of a great O-line and weapons to give the ball to. (Only gonna be better this season with Harvin added) Wilson did make plays though and managed the game well. He's smart and has to be because he is not the biggest guy on the field. He had a really high QBR for a rookie as well at 100.0.
3. Luck is a funny player when you look at the entire picture, because out of all the rookie QBs he had the hardest team coming to be placed into. He had the biggest shoes to fill with the worst team in the league and just a bad bad team over across the board. Considering that he turned them back into a fighting team with some life similar to RG3. He threw 28 touchdowns more then any other rookie QB, but also had 18 interceptions and 5 fumbles resulting in more turnovers then any other player in the league. That was a big blow to a successful rookie season considering he took the worst team in the league to the playoffs! But with the excessive amount of turnovers it brought his QBR down to a 76.5. He does however have the most TDs out of all the rookie QBs with a total of 33 touchdowns.
4. These next two are just far from the rest of the pack but I thought I should go to 5 so they got put on the list. Tannehill like Luck got put on a team with no life and no skill, bad defense with a no weapon Offense that ended up relying on Reggie Bush way to much to make the big plays. Considering that though Tannehill had 12 passing TDs and only 13 interceptions. An average rookie season on a really bad team. He managed games, similar to an Alex Smith type of play but with a bad Defense and no solid consistent run game it just did not work like it did for Smith in San Fran. The play style just did not suit the teams needs. He ended up with a QBR at 76.1 only .4 away from Luck showing how turnovers can kill a QBR.
5. Honestly I was disappointed with Weeden and thought he would do better then expected and would be the suprise QB but no he was exactly what most expected him to be. A 72.6 QBR with only 14 passing TDs and 17 interceptions. A gunslinger mentality and just did not manage the game very well.
